READING PROGRAMS
Nixon Elementary participates in the following Reading Programs
Accelerated Reader:
Accelerated Reader (A.R.) Enterprise is a computer-based program designed for students to help motivate and monitor their reading practice and develop comprehension skills. Three times a year, students are administered the STAR Early Literacy Test and the STAR Reading Test, which gives them an individual reading level. Students then read books at their appropriate reading level and take an Accelerated Reader reading practice quiz after they finish the story. Both the students and teachers are provided with immediate feedback on the reading progress. Students can also take vocabulary practice, literacy skills practice, and textbook quizzes. Students also are administered the STAR Math test for a recommended math level.
To see if any books you have at home are Accelerated Reader books click here: www.arbookfind.com.
Six Flags Read to Succeed Program:
Students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags by recording at least six hours of recreational reading in their reading log during the program's time frame.
